If you’ve ever thought about investing in a Vitamix, this demo class is a great way to learn what they are capable of! Sarah Castro, a VITAMIX Chef Trainer will prepare a variety of 15 recipes in just 1 ½ hours. Participants will receive samples of each recipe made. Not only will you gain a better understanding of this powerful kitchen tool, but you’ll receive detailed recipes and an experience that will CHANGE your way of thinking about food!
Recipes to be demonstrated are: Lemonade Sorbet with spinach, cabbage, carrots, squash and kale; Garden Vegetable Juice; Green Smoothie; Whole Fruit Juice; Fresh Salsa; Guacamole; Asian Cabbage Slaw; Canola Bars; Thai Ginger Soup; Hot Tomato Basil Soup; Tortilla Soup; Peanut Butter; Raspberry or Strawberry Chocolate Ice Cream; Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream; Mocha Coffee Ice Cream. Sustainable Food Center Local Food Potluck

In celebration of a successful season, SFC will be having their Local Food Potluck on Sunday, May 22, 6:30–9:30p.m. at the Barr Mansion (10463 Sprinkle Road Austin, TX 78754). The potluck will celebrate local food, recent Citizen Gardener Graduates as well as Austin Permiculture Graduates.
Those attending should bring a dish made with local ingredients, either from their own garden or from CSAs, farms, farmer’s markets, or local distributors and RSVP to joshua AT sustainablefoodcenter.org
While we will have some cutlery and plates on hand, we would appreciate if people could bring their own plates and silverware – feel free to bring a beverage to enjoy and share as well.
Also, we will be collecting donations in order to thank Barr Mansion for allowing us to use their space for our event – please consider pitching in.

Come celebrate Green Gate Farms 5th Anniversary, farmers’ birthdays and launch of New Farm Institute at our River Farm along the banks of the Colorado River (15m east of Canoga Ave farm).
Explore a new organic farm-in-the-making, go on hayrides, take a strawbale building workshop, enjoy live music, vendors like Wanderlust Artisanal Ice Cream, maybe even learn to yodel. Guests welcome to swim, canoe, kayak and camp. Just bring a shareable dish for the potluck dinner; Roasted Green Gate pork and goat meat provided, grilled by incomparable El Locavore Catering.
