I promise you’ve never heard of this…

Magenta spreen

Magenta Spreen

This week’s local box contains an unusual, pretty leafy green from My Father’s Farm- magenta spreen! It’s very similar to spinach (and more nutritionally dense!) and when used in cooking is likely indistinguishable. It’s also great for salads and steaming. Magenta spreen is easier to grow & more productive than spinach – perfect for dry times like these.

Like spinach, magenta spreen is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C & fiber, iron and calcium. Check out articles here and here for more on the history and benefits of magenta spreen.
